The 2020 Animal Heroes

We are proud to honor Fred and Beth McLeod for their dedication to the animals of Summit County. Both passionate animal rescue advocates and local personalities, the McLeod’s hosted the Pawsibility Ball for 5 years, raising the profile of this event to make it one of Akron’s top annual fundraising events. Beth McLeod has also generously hosted our annual sell out Bow Wow Bingo fundraiser held in March. Beth McLeod has led a long and successful career in broadcasting and can be seen nightly in her current role as a Meteorologist at Fox 8 News. Her beloved husband, Fred, was the longtime Cleveland Cavaliers and Fox Sports Ohio play-by-play announcer until his untimely passing in September 2019. The McLeod’s have helped raise support and awareness for animal rescue and helped promote the mission of HSSC to save the lives of vulnerable animals in need. Additionally, they have adopted several rescued dogs including Sammy, who was adopted from the Humane Society of Summit County, but sadly passed away earlier this year.

The Humane Society of Summit County community is deeply grateful for the support the McLeod's have given by elevating and growing awareness of our mission, supporting our special events, and raising valuable funds to ensure that animals in need have a second chance through the work of HSSC.
