It is a global day of charitable giving celebrated the Tuesday after Thanksgiving! Kick off your holiday season by making a gift to make a difference for vulnerable animals in Summit County.
Why support HSSC on #GivingTuesday?
The Humane Society of Summit County is the leading animal rescue organization in Summit County. With over 50 years of service, HSSC rescues and cares for over 2,600 animals each year, the majority of whom are victims of cruelty, neglect, and abandonment or suffering from illness and injury. Once safely at our shelter, our dedicated veterinary team provides all of our animals the lifesaving care that gives them healthy, happy futures with their forever families. This essential care makes happy endings possible, but is also costly. A gift in celebration of #GivingTuesday will directly support our Veterinary Care Fund.
HSSC is not affiliated with national rescue organizations like the Humane Society of the United States. 95% of the cost to run our shelter and rescue operations is donated by generous community members like you.

Bootstrap Bill
We may never know what Bootstrap Bill’s life was like before his rescue in October, but we’re certain it’s now filled with hope. Bootstrap Bill came to us as an injured stray suffering from a swollen and disfigured front leg. As a mastiff, his larger stature made walking painful and difficult.
In order to diagnose and treat Bootstrap Bill’s injured leg, Dr. Kauffman, HSSC’s shelter veterinarian, ordered diagnostic tests, including x-rays and clinical bloodwork. The results indicated that Bootstrap Bill was battling an extensive bone infection most likely caused by an untreated bite wound from another animal.
Increased doses of antibiotics, pain medications, and anti-inflammatory medication have been essential in helping Bootstrap Bill overcome his infection, but his fight is not yet over. With some more time to recover and expert veterinary care, Bootstrap will be ready to find his forever family soon!
