Meet Rhino - Foster Needed!

2nd December 2022

Rhino came to us as as an injured stray. Once in our care, we quickly noticed that being in a kennel environment was really stressful as he started pacing, chewing his kennel door, and eating inanimate objects. While in a previous foster home, he blossomed into a happy-go-lucky pup! While he can be a bit shy when first meeting new people, Rhino quickly warms up into a great snuggle buddy.

Here's what his previous foster had to say about this sweet boy's playful personality:

"He is such a sweet overgrown puppy. His crazy flexibility would make any yoga practitioner jealous. When you give him scratches, his whole body wags! He adores his chew toys and is curious and gentle with our cat. Meal times and play times are his favorite part of the day. He does well entertaining himself too, but likes to know his people are close by."

Rhino really loves the company of other dogs. He feels more confident on walks with a buddy by his side, though he eventually gets comfortable with going out just with people too. He'd do best in a foster home that has another canine friend.

If you are interested in opening your home up to Rhino or any of our other animals, please fill out our foster interest form and we'll get in touch as soon as possible. Rhino can't wait to meet you!

Our Canine Heartworm Program Saves Lives!

HSSC works tirelessly to save the lives of the animals most in need of help - the abused, neglected, abandoned, sick, and injured animals in our community. We see harrowing cases of illness and injury in homeless pets and give these animals a fighting chance through compassionate and lifesaving veterinary care.

Canine heartworm disease is a heartbreaking illness we encounter in these animals who need us the most. Passed along by a mosquito bite, heartworm is potentially fatal if left untreated. HSSC encounters upwards of 30 heartworm positive dogs annually. To protect and help our shelter residents and dogs throughout Summit ...

Monthly Giving makes a difference!

We can never anticipate what animals will arrive at the doors of the Humane Society of Summit County. Just two weeks ago, we received a frantic call – a good Samaritan had come across a suspicious plastic bag near a dumpster and could not help but investigate. Inside, she found twelve puppies who had been heartlessly abandoned and desperately needed our help. Her intuition saved lives – a dozen puppy lives, that is.

She quickly brought them to our shelter, where our dedicated staff and volunteers provided them with emergency veterinary care, food, water, and a comfortable, safe place to recover – and ...
