Fostering

Open your heart and home to a pet in need!

For animals who are very young, sick, or injured, time in a foster home may provide them with a therapeutic place to recover and grow before they are ready for adoption. Our greatest need each year is for kittens - we annually rescue over 1,000 kittens, most of whom require some time in a foster home!

Our foster families generously are rewarded with love, cuddles, and a great learning experience for the whole family! HSSC provides all the supplies your foster pet will need: food, bedding, leashes, litter, litter boxes, crates, and medical care – and staff offer advice and support! More information about HSSC’s foster program is available by clicking here.

Ace

Age: 2 years old
Weight: 50 lbs
Breed: Pit Bull Terrier mix

Foster Need: Ace came to us after he was injured from a collision with a vehicle. He has since undergone orthopedic surgery to repair damage to his hip. He is still recovering and would benefit greatly from special care in a foster home. Ace needs a quiet, stress-free place to relax while his exercise is monitored so that he can safely gain strength in his leg.

Personality: Ace can be a little timid when it comes to meeting new people. Once he knows you, he's your new best friend and loves to spend time cuddled up on the couch. Ace likes to play with toys and enjoys the company of another canine companion as well. Ace is a goofy and loving pup.

Lambo

Age: 6 years old
Weight: 70 lbs
Breed: Pit Bull Terrier mix

Foster Need: Lambo is undergoing medical treatment for a chronic skin infection that is affecting his ears, feet, and abdomen. He requires daily medications and weekly medicated baths to help him heal. Lambo would benefit greatly should he be able to complete his recovery in the comfort of a foster home!

Personality: Lambo is a fun, goofy, loving pup who also loves to snuggle! He also has great potential with other dogs.

Chrome

Age: 3 years old
Weight: 7 lbs
Breed: Domestic Shorthair

Foster Need: Chrome was rescued an injured stray suffering from wounds to his right rear leg. He is currently prescribed daily medications to help his wounds heal, but takes them with little issue if they are mixed with wet, canned food. Chrome would benefit in a foster home while he finishes his medication and has some extra room to exercise his right rear leg.

Personality: Chrome is a sweet, friendly kitty.

Mallet

Age: 2 years old
Weight: 6 lbs
Breed: Domestic Shorthair

Foster Need: Mallet arrived at our shelter as an owner surrender when his owner was no longer able to care for him. He is currently recovering from surgery to remove a large mass from his right ear. Mallet is prescribed a daily topical medication that is applied to his ear to help his wound heal. (Mallet and Sandpaper came from the same home)

Personality: Mallet is very shy and would benefit from a quiet, calm foster home.
