So, a setback. No way around it. October, beautiful as it was and always is around here, was a bump in the road.

For both of us.

Now what?

Well, Blue and I took a little walk yesterday and had a chat about what we needed to do to get back on the rails. We discussed how my knee injury and work schedule had thrown a handful of rocks into my outdoor plans and exercise routine. We talked about Blue’s weekend walks with me and other volunteers, which have been great, but shorter and less strenuous than before I picked that hill in Vermont to come down head first.

We also had a heart to heart about our diets. We’ll keep that between Blue and I, but we both agreed we needed to get back to green beans and lots of water, for starters.

But as for the rest of it, which most of you, I bet, would agree is what really matters? Walking on a loose leash? Greeting strangers politely? Jumping into the car rather than having to be coaxed or lifted or both? Just being happy and curious about life, with no more fear, shyness or uncertainty?

Well, come see him for yourself, is all I have to say about that. Because if you’d known this dog in January, you wouldn’t recognize him today.

Next Sunday morning, Blue and I will continue our journey south along the Buckeye Trail through Summit County. We’ll start in the Sand Run Metro Park area and hike along the Cuyahoga River into Akron. We’ll be meeting new people, practicing new behaviors that will help Blue be even more successful as he meets more and more potential adopters, and sharing a few tips about keeping it safe and fun as fall glides relentlessly into winter. Don’t miss it.

Oh. One more thing.

Please keep in mind this is all about finding this amazing dog the forever home he deserves and has worked so hard to find. Help us keep this project going with your donation. Way more important than that, spread the word about Blue through social media, word of mouth, lighted signs in your front yard…whatever you can think of. Let’s all work together to get this guy a real home for the Holidays, shall we?

Look for a Facebook update next Monday about our return to the Buckeye Trail, and check back here on November 20 for our mid-month update. That is, if Blue isn’t already stretched out on somebody’s couch by then.

Have a great week!

Ted
